Global real estate adviser CBRE has announced the appointment of Simon Tanner as a senior director for its strategic advisory team with a focus on the public sector.

Tanner’s experience includes having worked with GT Real Estate Advisory Team and in corporate finance at PwC.

He was most recently the head of commercial for the Government of Jersey, helping to shape the transformation of the Commercial Services Directorate. He has also worked with Sport England to develop a Covid relief scheme for the public leisure centre sector, advised the Ministry of Justice on its Prison Estates Transformation Programme and delivered a volumetric housing project for YMCA London and the South West.

Tanner has helped to set up many PFI deals, and at CBRE he will have a specific focus on developing the public sector business, including helping local authorities and public sector bodies to transition their expiring PFIs, as well as bringing his wider commercial experience to benefit both private and public sector clients.

During his career, Tanner has tackled a variety of policy and strategy roles on public sector projects, including the London Underground PPP and was on secondment for 18 months at the Department of Health’s Private Finance Unit, where he helped to develop new approaches for introducing private sector finance into traditionally public sector models.

Amanda Clack, CBRE’s head of strategic advisory and public sector, said: Simon is a well-regarded industry expert, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise in corporate finance and the public sector. His experience will be invaluable at a time when we are building new and existing relationships with the public sector.

Tanner said: “I am really excited about working with the CBRE team and using my public sector experience both to deliver and build on the firm’s already impressive client base.”
