Douglas Smith [square]Douglas Smith has been appointed as McGill’s commercial director with a remit to increase the company’s ambitions and cement its reputation as a strong contractor with an all-trades approach.

McGill recently announced its merger with Alliance Electrical Services to solidify its position as a strong mid-tier contractor in the North East of Scotland, operating right across the country. The merger allows McGill to expand its ambitions, and it forecasts turnover in excess of £15 million this year.

Smith, a chartered surveyor, brings with him two decades of experience in the building services and property industries.  After spending eight years in private practice, he spent 17 years at Marshall Construction as chief estimator and commercial lead, after which he spent time at a number of SMEs in the construction and FM industry, where as director he doubled its turnover.

He specialises in contract awards and has a history of building significant profitable turnover, maintaining and developing existing and new clients, and has a portfolio of completed construction projects in excess of £500 million.

McGill managing director Errol Lawrie said: Douglas comes with great commercial knowledge and experience, and we know he will be instrumental in McGill’s success. With our recent merger we have already increased our range of services along with our ambitions, and Douglas will make sure we’re winning profitable work that uses all of our skills.”
