John Welch [square]NEC, a procurement contracts provider, has appointed John Welch as its new users’ chair.

Welch is currently the deputy director of Crown Commercial Service (CCS) for construction.

As chair of the NEC, he will drive further collaboration across sectors to facilitate more streamlined implementation of procurement contracts, along with extending into new areas such as manufacturing.

Welch has over 20 years of experience working in civil service roles including building, infrastructure, petrochemical and nuclear power. He will bring strategic direction to increase NEC’s growth and usage worldwide.

Welch said: “In the future, I want NEC to be synonymous with carbon reduction, and it’s extremely reassuring to see that it’s already heavily on the agenda industry-wide.

“The collaboration and flexibility that NEC offers mean it already plays a vital role in the industry, and it’s promising to see that this will only continue.

“After what’s been a difficult past two years, industry and government bodies have grown closer than ever, and I’m pleased to be working with NEC at a time when the sector is in such a fortunate position.”
