A large NHS organisation is currently seeking a very capable individual for a period of 6 months in the role of Fire Safety Officer/Advisor. 

Main Responsibilities:
  • Promote and monitor fire safety standards within the organisation, ensure appropriate fire safety systems are installed and maintained, design and deliver statutory training, induction training and in-department training for the Health Board, ensuring this is evidence based, efficiently and effectively delivered to meet the needs of all staff groups. Undertaking of fire audits as necessary; 
  • Take action and give advice to the Health Board based on own interpretation of fire safety legislation and technical document such as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Approved Document B of the building regulations, NHS Firecode, Health Technical Memorandums and various British Standards; 
  • Undertake regular fire risk assessments for all Health premises risk scoring significant findings which requires the ability to exercise judgment when identifying and assessing fire risks as they may be complicated and there may be a number of solutions, the implications of each of the solutions has to be considered; 
  • Hold have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of fire safety in large buildings and being able to use own judgment to apply the correct fire strategies throughout the Hospital; 
  • Planning, organisation and delivery of a fire safe environment; 
  • Develop Health Board Fire Safety Policy and Procedures and ensure they are taken though the relevant ratification process. To carry out regular reviews and ensure implementation; 
  • Develop site management plans relating to fire safety; 
  • Carry out regular audits on the management of fire safety within the entire organisation; 
  • Report to various groups and committees e.g. the Fire Safety Working Group, Estates and Compliance Committee, Capital Control Group, Health and Safety Committee; 
  • Develop programmes of upgrade of both passive and active fire safety systems; 
  • Ensure that all fire incidents are investigated and there is effective management of Unwanted Fire Signals and that all fires are reported via the IFM reporting system; 
  • Design, plan, organise and implement training programmes ensuring that staff are trained for role in subjects such as fire regulations, fire risks, fire resisting construction, fire awareness, evacuation procedures and firefighting equipment ensuring accurate records of training are maintained. 
A successful candidate will have:
  • Utilise IT equipment to develop, store and update fire safety data including reports, databases and drawings using software such as Word, Excel and AutoCAD; 
  • Degree in Fire Engineering/relevant experience equivalent none qualification based; 
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management/ CFPA Europe Advanced Diploma in Fire Prevention or other suitable fire safety experience/Qualifications;
