Experienced Building Services Engineer with a strong background working in water treatment. In particular, candidates should have a very good understanding of legionella and how to treat positive results.

My client is a top University with a large portfolio of properties across the City. Due to an internal promotion this position for a Building Services Engineer has become available and they require a composed, calm and self-motivated individual to drive the improvements of the water hygiene and treatment process across the university buildings.

  • Develop and Deliver M&E engineering services to meet EM&I priorities, through a range of service providers
  • Act as focal point on maintenance issues for Schools/departments across portfolio as required
  • Lead the preparation, prioritisation, co-ordination and deliver of assigned projects and programmes, including:- Planned works, Long Term Maintenance, one-off projects and business improvement work-streams
  • Respond as necessary to identify and manage the resolution of reported breakdowns, faults and problems
  • Provide relevant specialist advice and support to colleagues and customers to meet the overall mission
  • Carry out pre-handover testing, inspecting and commissioning
  • Prepare regular management/performance information to Team Leader and Senior Management team
  • Manage delegated budgets for assigned programmes and service positions

My client is looking to find the right candidate for this position and will not be taking on individuals who are 'close' to the level of experience or who are looking for a step up into this position.

The role of Building Services Engineer within the water treatment function is a critical position and they must have a candidate with previous or current experience working extensively on water treatment and hygiene control projects.

Candidates must understand full water treatment processes and be able to remain calm and composed when dealing with problems. You will be able to show a string of water treatment courses completed or with potential ongoing training arranged.

Progressive candidates with the desire to learn will be preferred. My client is not expecting candidates to know everything about water treatment but they should have or be able to show the aptitude to learn or research a subject if required.

Essential experience required:

  • Evidence of ongoing self-development/training
  • Current City & Guilds training in management and control of Legionella
  • Experience of maintenance operations in a large multi-site organisation
  • Budget management experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate a 'can-do' attitude

Ideal experience:

  • Working knowledge of ZetaSafe compliance software
  • Knowledge of closed water systems
