Head of Facilities Management

Heriot-Watt University

Location:  Based at our Riccarton Campus, Edinburgh

Contract:  Open-ended

Salary: Grade 10 [£63,477 - £79,318]

Closing Date: Sunday 9th December 2018

The University is in the midst of an ambitious plan to develop both the Edinburgh and International Campuses. The University requires a bold, ambitious and innovative Estates Strategy that will establish the direction for the development and maintenance of the campuses over the next ten years and set the vision for the development programmes beyond this timescale.

Estates and Facilities is moving into a period of change where service excellence will be a cornerstone. Heriot-Watt as a forward thinking institution requires its Estates services to operate in a professional, planned and customer focus way and we are looking to appoint an experienced leader to undertake a change management programme that builds a service which is fit for purpose and which exhibits the drive and cutting-edge that you would see prevalent in private facility management providers.

We are seeking a Head of Facilities Management, who will be responsible for leading all aspects of our Estate Services.  As a senior leader within Estates and Facilities, you will work closely with your direct reports and the Global Director of Estates and Facilities to ensure Estates Services supports the achievement of University goals and objectives. As well as leading the delivery of a Facilities Management service and a member of the Estates and Facilities Management Team, you will be specifically responsible for the transformation of the facilities operations, streamlining and modernising services.

Educated to degree level in facilities management or a related discipline, you will have considerable experience of senior leadership and evidence of dynamic, intelligent leadership skills, including exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiating capabilities. With a quantifiable track record of managing and controlling substantial budgets, and demonstrable experience of strategic planning, you will understand the key issues and challenges facing the Higher Education sector over the next ten years and be able to analyse implications and opportunities.

This is an exciting new position for the Times and Sunday Times ‘International University of the Year’, at a time when Heriot-Watt University is championing and driving forward our key priorities of quality and global distinctiveness.
