Southend-on-Sea Borough Council are currently recruiting a team of gardeners to assist the Parks Operations in undertaking the maintenance work in public parks, recreational grounds, Sports Grounds / Golf Courses, floral displays, landscaped areas and similar open spaces within the Borough including Southend’s Cemetery & Crematorium.

Your New Role

If you are enthusiastic and motivated to ensure the highest aesthetic standards through a practical frontline approach this could be a great opportunity for you. The team are seeking candidates to join them from April 2019 on a temporary basis until October 2019, with full time hours (37 to 42 hours per week). Hours of work will be on a flexible rota, but will generally be 7am - 4pm Monday-Thursday and 7am - 3.30pm on a Friday. Weekend working may be required but will be based on a shift rotation There are four ground maintenance depots: Belfairs; Priory Park; Chalkwell Park; and Great Wakering. You will be working in the vicinity of one of these sites to carry out your day’s work. This role will require you to carry out day to day duties which will include the use of relevant gardening equipment, for example garden strimmers, mowers, blowers and hedge cutters. The work also includes maintaining highway verges, shrub and rose beds, seasonal bedding and sports pitches.

What You Need to Succeed

A suitable applicant would ideally have experience of working within the parks environment, general labouring, landscaping or outdoor work. Experience in this sector will ideally demonstrate your reliability for the hours of work and working outside. If you are a driver this would be advantageous.
