This position will be part of the larger team looking after engineering aspects and be happy to share their knowledge and understanding with other members to create most effective solutions for the projects.

The Construction Manager will link with and work collaboratively with all supporting functions to sustain operational management in order to maximise returns in terms of profit and service level.

Construction / Alterations Manager - NHS FM Service Provider

Tasks & Responsibilities:

* Develops a good working knowledge of each project and organisations structure but ensuring project management is directed to the on site management delivery team.
* Able to recognise and record changes in design and maintenance information. Able to instigate changes in maintenance or design philosophy's when required.

* Engages to provide specialist engineering advice to the benefit of project teams.
* Advises on development of engineering methodology to ensure optimal engineering solution is reached.
* Monitors progress of project works to review impact of changing conditions on agreed methodology, design, maintenance, lifecycle, etc.
* Effectively manages design team hours / site reporting where input is required.
* Capable of putting together cost estimates for maintenance replacement or new works.
* Understands the commercial implications of decisions.
* Communicates company quality policy and systems across team for dissemination to subcontractors and supplier.
* Leads in reviewing and establishing robust on site procedures to ensure that maintenance or new works proceed in accordance with best practice.
* Leads in the on-site or off-site inspection process taking responsibility for critical activities.
* Leads in establishing an environment that seeks opportunities for improvement, to overcome problem and to mitigate risks.
* Creates environment in which project team is encouraged to take a holistic approach to appraising and utilising engineering systems.
* Actively engages in the creative and innovative development of engineering technologies and procedures. Promotes innovative solutions within the team and across the group.
* Conducts multi-disciplinary research beyond personal experience to maximise understanding before appraising options.
* Identifies challenges for new works or maintenance at tender stage and defines methodologies that overcome these to deliver a safe and cost effective solution that delivers the programme.
* Manages the development of complex designs requiring multi-disciplinary and specialist input.

Person Specification:
- Must be able to demonstrate broad technical knowledge backed up by a sound experience of application of such systems, especially critical and life safety systems experience in relation to design, operation and maintenance.
- Ability to produce succinct technical reports with clearly articulated issues, actions and outcomes and the ability to relate any matters back to Statute Law, Mandatory codes and or good practice guidance or similar documentation.
- Evidence of experience in the specification of written scopes of work for Procurement specifications would be advantageous.
- Preparation of and maintenance of Policy and Procedural documentation would be desirable.

Must have Degree, HND or HNC in a relevant Building Services or similar Engineering discipline.

Professional Membership: Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
CIBSE, IET, IHEEM or IWFM Membership desired.

Relevant Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years post graduate experience working in Technical Services / Facilities with a strong bias towards the Build Environment. Previous experience acting as an Authorising Engineer or Authorised Person and thorough grasp of Safe Systems
- IOSH Managing Safely, Experience of Audit and compliance preferably with ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Training. Knowledge of HTM, HBN 's.
Built environment related Statutory Compliance knowledge.
