The Role
The In-House Services team aims to deliver a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for Members, their staff and staff of the House to work in; as well as providing a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors to the House of Commons.
The Porterage and Furniture Stores Supervisor role is to plan and supervise porterage across the Parliamentary Estate utilising a team of 17 contractors’ staff and vehicles as well as deliveries to and from an external storage facilities. The position is also responsible for the operation of the Furniture Store. This includes ensuring the correct level of resources (vehicles & porters etc) are available on a weekly basis to meet business needs in the most economical manner available within agreed service levels.
Logging in and out both historic and modern furniture held in the on-site furnishings stores and at a third-party warehouse.
Directing supervising a team of 17 porters, including drivers and IT Engineer, and vehicles in supporting day to day office churn, banqueting set ups, conference and ceremonial events ensuring efficiency at all times. On average there are six hundred movements of furnishings around the estate, combined with the daily movement of items between the Estate and external storage facilities.
The Person
The successful candidate will have the experience of working in a similar position managing a busy stores environment, including furnishings and historic furniture or similar. Proven experience of working with operational delivery staff and porterage teams within a busy environment including directing and supervising Contractors as necessary to meet service levels. Have the ability to work well under pressure and able to prioritise and plan their own workload, and to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
