Your new organisation

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre offering traditional seaside living that makes it a great place to live and work. This diverse and busy town has great public parks and leisure activities, competitive house pricing and excellent travel links, accessible via 2 train lines form Liverpool St and Fenchurch Street.

Your New Role

Are you passionate about the environment, ambitious about the role you can play to improve it and a seasoned communicator? Is the thought of being part of positive change in your community and beyond part of what makes you tick? Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is searching for an enthusiastic team to deliver an exciting EU funded recycling project (‘Plasticity’) in our region over the next 3 years.

You will have direct input into strategies to increase plastic recycling in the borough, and contribute to innovative and forward-thinking multi-sector solutions. You will work with multiple European partners, and develop solutions that will give the Council access to leading specialists in plastic recycling and waste collection to help with generating strategies and actions that can improve both current and future performance. And all of this against the exciting back drop of Southend’s ambitious Southend 2050 vision.

What You Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role you will need experience of working collaboratively with multiple partners, of mapping waste flows, performance monitoring, and of nurturing relationships which are built to last. Engagement and continuous improvement are your primary drivers, putting the Citizen and customer’s experience firmly at the centre of what you do. You will also have a thirst to learn and develop – unafraid to tackle new challenges head on. The team will consist of one project manager, and 2 project officers and will be part of the wider Waste Management Service.

What You Get In Return

  • Excellent opportunities for career progression
  • A supportive and open environment
  • A lower cost of living than London, while Southend is only 50 minutes from the City
  • Being part of a culturally rich, diverse town
  • Up to £8,000 to support with relocation costs subject to eligibility
