The British Museum, which has one of the UK's most iconic Grade 1 listed buildings, is seeking a Permit Officer for our complex estate. In this newly created role, the Permit Officer will assist the Museum in the development, implementation and day-to-day management of the permit to work system, supporting the Museum's business activities and compliance with statutory obligations.Key areas of responsibility:Checking risk assessments and method statements for contract work, and issuing work permitsEnsuring compliance with the British Museum's permit to work procedures and CDM (2015) RegulationsReviewing, and where necessary, developing processes to ensure effective coordination of worksActing as the point of contact for contractors on site for permit to work during usual operational hours and monitoring of contract worksWorking closely with Property and Facility Management, outsourced contractor and project management teams to ensure compliance is achieved, and offering guidance and advice on relevant mattersProviding regular reporting to key stakeholdersCarrying out periodic audits of permit to work processesPerson specification:The ideal candidate will have a recognised Health and Safety qualification/degree, or equivalent experience, and will possess a NEBOSH Construction certificate. With demonstrable experience of working in an FM environment, with a proven track record of compliance, you will have a good understanding of statutory compliance regulations and permitting, as well as sound knowledge of various engineering disciplines e.g. electrical, mechanical, heating and cooling, fire safety systems.To perform well in this role you will be able to prioritise your workload successfully and maintain attention to detail in your work if under pressure. As a good facilitator and organiser, you will have excellent communication skills and will be able to foster teamwork through cooperation.
