Head of Building & Engineering

Salary: Senior Manager Scale (circa £70k per annum) plus excellent benefits package

The University of Plymouth is going places. Consistently rising in the various national league tables and placed second in the UK in the Times Higher Education’s ranking of global young universities, we’re focused on building on our strengths and are totally committed to ensuring that our future is even greater than our past.

At the University of Plymouth, it is in our nature to innovate – be that in our teaching or in our research. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do — pushing boundaries isn’t just encouraged, it is expected. At Plymouth, every part of our community is engaged in the pursuit of excellence and we ignite our students’ imagination to challenge and drive innovation forward. We are passionate about potential and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to realise theirs. We invest in our employees, inspiring creativity and new ideas that transform the future of education and research.

Reporting to the Director of Estates & Facilities, the role of Head of Building & Engineering oversees and manages all the teams responsible for all aspects of planned and reactive building and engineering maintenance, in addition to grounds and gardens. The remit also covers an exciting range of minor works projects.  This post is supported by the Building & Engineering Maintenance Manager and the Principal Building Surveyor, with a total team of circa 23.  Alongside managing the sizeable in-house provision the role is responsible for the strategic management of the external supply chain.

You will possess an in-depth knowledge of best practice in engineering and maintenance operations across a large, diverse, multi-site operation, coupled with demonstrable commercial awareness and change management experience. Ideally, you will have a formal qualification in an engineering related discipline and hold Chartered status, however, equally important is a demonstrable track record in strategic delivery. This is a post that will suit professionals with strong communication skills, who are natural leaders and collaborators with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.

For a confidential discussion please contact Trevor Wills, Director of Estates & Facilities, on 01752 588427 or trevor.wills@plymouth.ac.uk

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.

Formal interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 30 July 2019

Closing Date:  12 midnight, Sunday 30 June 2019

We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.

The University of Plymouth is committed to equality of opportunity, promoting a diverse and inclusive culture, demonstrated through our commitment to the gender equality Athena SWAN Charter and as a Stonewall diversity champion. All applications will be judged solely on merit, however, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in the workforce, for example black and minority ethnic groups.

University of Plymouth holds a TEF (Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework) Silver by the Office for Students.
