Full time (35 hours per week – 1 FTE)

It may be possible to offer an annual supplement to the salary range stated for this role of up to £4,000 for a period of two years from the start date of the post. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of experience and recent pay benefits, and is entirely at the discretion of the University.
The role and its responsibilities
The M&E engineer’s role is to support the Maintenance and Compliance Manager and Senior Site Engineer in delivering maintenance, reactive repair and minor works whilst ensuring the health and safety of the SOAS environment for the students, staff and visitors. The M&E Engineer will work as part of a wider team and will report to the Maintenance and Compliance Manager. The role holder will have a commitment to providing excellent customer service to enhance the estate and the student experience alongside working with internal and external stakeholders and tenants on a regular basis.
Skills and experience
The post holder will need proven experience in Mechanical and Electrical maintenance with an understanding of reactive and planned preventative maintenance systems and procedures.
You will need to have fault finding abilities and be able to advise and make recommendations for resulting remedial works. The post holder will also be required to undertake small installation projects as and when required. You will also need and be able to apply general practical Health and Safety knowledge.
The post requires good communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team and on individual assignments. You will need to be a qualified engineer with NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds part 1 & 2 in Mechanical Engineering.

The Estates and Facilities Directorate is responsible for the delivery of the Estates and Infrastructure Strategy which covers the areas of major construction and refurbishment projects; facilities operation and space management, including timetabling and energy management. The Directorate aims to ensure that the quality, functionality and operation of the estate and its associated infrastructure meets the needs of its users and supports the activities of the School.
