Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 193,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 36 adoption centres and homing centres.

Due to a large and expanding operational and retail property portfolio, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic maintenance or facilities management professional to organise and manage the reactive and planned maintenance across the group.

The work will be extensive and very varied, reflecting the nature of the portfolio, which comprises purpose-built cat adoption and homing centres up and down the country; a network of charity shops from Shetland to Cornwall; and residential accommodation occupied by employees or third parties. From time to time repairs and maintenance are also required with regard to legacy properties. Duties will include leading the property maintenance team to ensure that a first-class property maintenance service is given to our internal customers; preparing and overseeing the maintenance plans and selecting, procuring and managing contractors.

This role provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to provide high quality property maintenance support to the operational and retail arms of the organisation and to make a significant difference to the Charity’s work in helping cats. The position would suit a property or facilities manager with experience of managing a multi-site national portfolio, either ‘in-house’ or for an FM (hard services) or maintenance services provider. Relevant experience and capability to manage complex work streams, with a demanding customer base, will be more important than formal qualifications, although membership of IWFM is desirable.

This position will be based at the National Cat Centre in Chelwood Gate, Sussex but will require occasional hands-on management on site as required, together with liaison visits to contractors and field-based surveyors if required, so a willingness to travel within the UK (with occasional overnight stays) is essential.
