East London

If you have substantial experience of the high value project and cost management of new building and development and fast track refurbishment, and are looking for a brand new role that you’ll be able to put your own stamp on, join UEL as Head of Projects and Estates Development.

With campuses in both Stratford and Docklands, the fast-growing University of East London (UEL) is at the heart of Europe's largest regeneration area. And, right now, our Estates and Facilities Management Directorate is embarking on an exciting new Capital and Minor Work programme that will include site redevelopment and construction, as well as the refurbishment of existing areas across our 125,000 SQM estate. As a result, we’ve created this brand new role that could see you play a major part in our future.

The challenges you’ll face will be varied and numerous. As well as managing funding bids on behalf of the Director, you’ll project manage an array of development, new-build and refurbishment projects too. We’ll also rely on you to provide the strategic information required to help deliver our brand new strategy for the future - Vision 2028 - as well as a Connected Campus and Estate Strategy that’s been approved by the board of Governors.

Developing and maintaining cost control procedures, producing reports and tender documentation, supervising external consultants, project teams and contractors and participating in post project and occupancy reviews and handovers - these are just some aspects of this exciting new role.

To succeed, you’ll need a degree level education and a professional qualification in a construction and/or surveying related discipline. You’ll also need the ability to manage project teams and consultants and experience of dealing with property disposal and land sales. Used to dealing with customers and multiple stakeholders at all levels of a complex organisation, knowledge of health and safety legislation relating to construction and estates development would be useful too. What’s for certain is that you have excellent report writing, presentation and interpersonal skills and are adept at using project programming, MS Office and project budget software.

So, if you’re looking for a rare chance to play a major role in a growing Estates & Facilities management team, not to mention genuine personal progression and career development potential, here’s your opportunity.

At UEL, we aim to attract and retain the best possible staff and offer a unique working environment that combines a tradition of academic excellence and innovation with a location at the heart of a dynamic region with excellent transport links. East London is experiencing rapid development too, making it one of the most stimulating parts of London in which to work. We also offer a great range of benefits including pension, family friendly policies and an on-site nursery and gym at our Docklands Campus.

Closing date: 22nd September 2019.
