Maintenance Engineer – Electrician (2 Required)

Engineer 1 Location: Responsible for 6 Student Accommodation Sites in South London – Southwark; Borough; Waterloo; Shadwell; Elephant & Castle; and New Cross Gate.

Engineer 2 Location: Responsible for 6 Student Accommodation Sites in East London - Stratford (2 Sites); Whitechapel (3 Sites); Bethnal Green. (1 Site)

One of the UK’s leading developers and managers of Student Accommodation Facilities with a portfolio of some 120 properties nationwide housing over 60,000 students with a further 20,000 bedrooms planned in the near future.

They offer a basic salary of between £29,000 and £34,000 per annum with excellent opportunities for career development and further qualifications. A vehicle is provided alongside travel expenses during working hours and when on call.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Engineer will be acting as a technical specialist for electrical maintenance and facilities works, to include but not limited to:-

  • Maintenance of Domestic and Commercial electrical installations
  • Working in plant rooms and with the electrical plant items
  • Training and supporting the internal electrical competent person accreditation
  • Reviewing the electrical installations, and advising managers of improvements
  • Working on electronic locking systems, and intercoms associated with gates and barriers
  • Working with suited locking systems both mechanical and electronic
  • Working with windows and door repairs
  • Basic plastering and plumbing works
  • Providing Reactive maintenance support (including emergency building works and summer turnaround projects)
  • Fault finding and rectifying
  • Completing planned inspections, and rectifying any remedial works identified
  • Support the compliance teams when required with PPM activities
  • Logging of maintenance issues through the supervisor or service and sales team
  • Forming part of the maintenance team on call rota
  • Taking an active role during the turnaround the room process

It is essential that the Engineer has a great understanding of Compliance and Accountability; that he/she ensures great Customer Service at all times; that Health and Safety remains of paramount importance at all times; that all administrative functions are carried out correctly; that he/she understands the value of teamwork and that he/she supports the general Facilities Team and ensures a positive experience for the student tenants.

Key Requirements (Qualifications, Skills and Personal)

  • Previous experience working as an Electrician
  • NICEIC 17th or 18th Edition qualified including amendment 3 refresher training
  • NVQ Level 3 qualified and City and Guilds 2360 Part 1 and 2/City & Guilds 2330 (England) or SVQ Level 3 (Scotland)
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the proven ability to engage with customers and colleagues alike
  • Basic computer literacy and the ability to use Microsoft Office and PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) maintenance systems
  • Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own time effectively, prioritising tasks when required, multitasking and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to offer flexibility in working hours and to take part in the on call rota
  • Ability to work contracted hours over a 5/7 working pattern
  • Living within reasonable travelling distance of City properties
  • Ability to build relationships internally and with third party suppliers
  • Possesses a positive and collegiate attitude, with the ability to adapt swiftly and a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Possesses full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • City and Guilds 2394 and 2395 or City and Guilds 2391 Test and Inspect
  • Experience of reactive and planned maintenance
  • Experience of working in the student accommodation, hospitality, Social Housing, or retail sectors
  • Experience in complaint handling
  • Experience in a customer facing role
