If so the role of Building Maintenance Electrician allows you to exercise your electrician skills whilst performing building maintenance tasks, giving you variety and scope within the role.

As a Building Maintenance Electrician you will work within a small team to undertake compliant installation, operation and maintenance of the Group’s mechanical and electrical systems and equipment, ensuring that the designated Cambridge Assessment assets are maintained to be safe, secure and in excellent order.

What you’ll be doing

Based in our state-of-the-art Printing and Operations warehouse and distribution centre, you’ll provide systematic proactive and reactive engineering support working to business agreed SLAs.

Responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of the annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule you’ll have ownership for all reactive works, mechanical and electrical equipment, systems and assets. Planning, costing, and managing electrical installations, you’ll conduct testing and reactive maintenance repair projects, maintaining fully documented audit records.

The management of on-site contractors will be part of your role too, ensuring that they are fully inducted and briefed about the work they are required to complete, in accordance with Company’s guidelines and procedures (site induction / monitoring, Permit to Work, method statements and risk assessments). You will also be responsible for the review of all works completed by contractors ensuring completion within approved standards and good practice, especially in relation to H&S and welfare.

With the opportunity to contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and safe systems of work for all planned and reactive maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, you will provide electrical / mechanical expertise input into buildings projects.

Hours of work

There will be a requirement to work an early and late rotating shift pattern and will be expected to participate in an out-of-hours rota call out system.

* The OTE comprises of shift payments and on call flat rate payments but does not include overtime or call out hourly payments.

What we’re looking for

  • City & Guilds 2360 Part 1&2 or approved equivalent (essential)
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 plus AM2 or equivalent to JIB Approved Electrician grade (essential)
  • Certified City and Guilds 2382 to current 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (essential)
  • Certified City and Guilds 2391 inspection and testing or the equivalent qualification (essential)
  • Proven installation and maintenance experience within commercial and industrial environments. 
  • Computer literacy skills with experience using MS Office (essential)
  • Competent and able to work at height (use of MEWP’s is essential)

The following certifications would be advantageous, although training will be provided:

Portable appliance testing, IOSH Working Safely, IPAF, PASMA, PUWER, L8, COSHH and Asbestos Awareness.

The successful candidate will have excellent problem solving and analytical fault-finding skills. A flexible working approach is a must as well as good interpersonal, team-working and customer service skills.
