Job Details

A large Healthcare organisation is looking for a LSMS Advisor on an interim basis for 3 months in the South East.

Responsible for the provision of specialist Local Security Management advice; ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and for supporting the development of security strategies, policies and procedures in conjunction with senior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake duties of an LSMS advisor in accordance with the organisation LSMS workplan including measures to tackle violence and general security management measures, and any subsequent advice or guidance issued by relevant bodies;
  • Support the establishment of the security and risk management framework;
  • Support the implementation of organisational resilience policies and plans;
  • Ensure that all NHS security management work is carried out within a professional and ethical framework as provided;
  • Provide regular written reports as directed by the Accredited LSMS or Head of Risk Management to appropriate committees within the Organisations on a regular basis, including a detailed trend analysis of data provided by the risk management data system;
  • Ensure that all security management work is carried out within a professional and ethical framework developed;
  • Support the development of policy and procedures to encourage a culture where violence, abuse and security related incidents are openly reported and acted on across the organisation;
  • Advise on all new legislation and initiatives related to security and violence including implications for the Trust and develop the necessary implementation plans;
  • To be aware of the complex reasons for violence within services and participate in strategic planning to promote a change in culture;
  • Identify and implement initiatives for reducing levels of violence and security related incidents;
  • Actively support staff who have been victims of violence including, advice on incident and police reporting, levels of expectation, guidance on criminal proceedings, police liaison, advice on Criminal Injury Compensation Authority Claims, complaints and appeals processes;
  • Ensure that appropriate steps are taken to create a pro-security culture so that staff and patients accept responsibility for this issue and ensure that where security incidents/breaches occur that they are detected and reported;
  • Support the review of investigations and carry out Serious Incident investigations and make recommendations for improvements on request and as directed;
  • Ensure that the lessons learnt from security incidents/breaches can be fed into risk analysis both locally and nationally so that appropriate preventative measures can be developed.
A successful candidate will have:
  • LSMS accredited;
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting;
  • Experience of management of violence issues within a mental health setting services and related training;
  • Good working knowledge of risk assessment and the national Violence and Aggression agenda;
  • Knowledge of national guidelines and governmental documentation such as Tackling Violence against Staff and Lone Working;
  • Knowledge and experience of MS Office, and the use of other bespoke risk management systems (e.g. Datix);
  • Ability to interpret and analyse data and resolve failures to meet project standards;
  • Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal communication (written and oral);
  • Ability to plan and organise complex projects across the organisation and formulise adjustments accordingly;
  • Understanding of the national agenda relating to the NHS Protect agenda.
