University College London (UCL) is a globally recognised Institution and one of the UK’s most successful Universities with over 12,000 staff and 47,000 students. The activities of UCL have expanded as a result of several mergers and academic and funding opportunities. Our estate comprises of over 250 buildings valued in excess of £2bn including more than 4 million square feet of academic teaching space and c.6000 units of student accommodation. UCL is embarking on a 10 year. Capital Programme which will see capital investment over the period amounting to around £1.2bn and including the development of a New University Quarter (UCL East) at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.  The scale, variety and complexity of the portfolio are unparalleled in the sector. 

The Engineering and Infrastructure team within UCL Estates, is responsible for managing support to the complex £2bn property portfolio consisting of 200 buildings. With an annual maintenance spend exceeding £34m managed through a team of over 70 technical and trade staff. The team manages maintenance services, contracts, long-term maintenance and improvements to buildings and infrastructure including critical statutory requirements such as legionella, asbestos and other complex building related requirements, which have a significant impact on the effective operation and reputation of UCL as a whole.

The postholder will have demonstrable experience in manging both in-house technical teams of specialist engineers & surveyors but also be proficient in the management of an external supply chain. Strong commercial and contract management experience is essential. Previous experience in higher education and/or healthcare would be beneficial but not essential. You will have a proven career history in the effective delivery of planned/strategic maintenance and lifecycle works across a similar multi-site portfolio.
