The UK’s Destinations & Venues (D&V) business supports large retail parks, shopping centres, exhibition centres, stadiums, arenas, visitor attractions and major events. Our Retail division within D&V supports clients such as M&G, CBRE, Savills at sites such as Westfield Stratford, Manchester Arndale, Centre MK and the Whitgift Centre.

Working within our growing Retail division, we are seeking an ambitious Business Development Manager to support our strategic goals and offer bespoke Soft Service (Cleaning, Security services etc.) solutions to clients within the Retail industry.

As the Business Development Manager, you will be identifying and delivering new profitable contracts within our Retail division of £4.5m turnover in 2021, increasing in future years, via proactive strategic selling, responding to reactive (in bound) opportunities and owning/leading competitive tender processes.

Your role will be cultivating new business opportunities by forging robust relationships with appropriate stake holders, both within OCS, amongst consultants and especially target clients directly, and then reacting to and managing real time requests for proposals.

The successful person will co-ordinate and work alongside OCS operational and central support colleagues as part of a bid project team.

This role can be home based anywhere in England as your client base will be National.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and developing a wide network of contacts within the Retail sector, building and cementing relationships in the designated marketplace to ensure the Company is invited to participate in appropriate tenders
  • Remaining fully knowledgeable of sector news, key players, competitors, innovations, challenges and general intelligence, reported and shared effectively within the broader divisional team
  • Raising awareness of OCS within the sector by way of association membership, event attendance and development of professional networks, resulting in a pipeline of opportunities that meet our ideal client criteria
  • Ensuring all tender responses are well thought through and project managed, innovative, accurate, compliant, timely and well presented
  • Preparing and delivering all other aspects of the strategic sales process including awareness campaigns, presentations, exhibitions and general marketing collateral
  • Providing informed feedback on all sales leads and tender opportunities
  • Reporting activities and results via agreed processes and protocols, prepare and undertake a thorough hand-over to divisional and central colleagues as and when new business opportunities are converted
  • Keeping up to date with industry innovations for inclusion in tender responses.
  • Maintaining and updating Salesforce to ensure accurate sales reporting
  • Undertaking project work & support in mobilisations as required, carrying out site surveys to identify productivity and continuous improvement opportunities

Experience required:

Education/Qualifications

  • Strong IT literacy
  • Retail Sector Associated Membership - desirable but not essential

Working experience/Personal attributes

  • Strong experience in Business Development within the Facilities Management/Soft Services (Cleaning, Security, Catering etc.) industry, demonstrated by proven consistent results and achievements - essential
  • Ability to listen, understand and generate a solution to client needs
  • Positive mental attitude
  • Able to generate opportunities from proactive and robust client relationships and networking
  • Ability to think laterally resulting in innovative creative options
  • Able to interpret, manage and present information in an informed/innovative manner
  • Commercially aware with total commitment to customer/client service and development
  • Good communication, organisational and analytical skills
  • Neat and professional presentation
  • Flexible approach to working hours and location
  • Ability to work to deadlines and project manage to agreed timelines either alone or as a wider team
