Campus Services employs over 1100 staff and has a turnover exceeding £60m in the last financial year. Security and Emergency planning plays a unique and significant role in the quality of the student, staff and visitor experience at the University of Birmingham.

Reporting to the Head of Security and Emergency Planning, the post will lead the University’s development, implementation, coordination and management of robust business continuity plans.  This key role will run the business continuity and operational resilience support for Campus Services, supporting wider relevant groups across the University in developing and implementing polices, guidance, training to increase awareness of the importance of business continuity through embedding best practice.  You will be responsible for reviewing and developing Birmingham’s Major Incident and Emergency plan. You will also work as part of the Commonwealth Games steering group to ensure the University has continuity with the organising committee and the University has robust management plans in place to manage their commitments to the games.

An experienced business continuity professional, the successful candidate will have a key leadership role working with stakeholders to develop and embed business continuity across the University. You will be a confident communicator possessing natural gravitas with a high level of professional credibility and extensive practical experience in the development, implementation, review and audit of business continuity and major incident planning. You will be adept at forging stakeholder relationships with a demonstrable track record across similar collegial and collaborative environments and have the experience and ability to influence strategic decision making at all levels. You will hold (or be willing to gain) a recognised BCI professional qualification with a thorough understanding of business continuity planning across a comparable diverse & complex organisation. This is a newly created role that will suit professionals who enjoy taking ownership of projects and operating with real autonomy.
