An exciting opportunity has arisen within a large NHS organisation for a motivated Deputy Maintenance Manager.

The post will be working in Sheffield for 3-6 months, at Band 6 (£26.23 per hour).

Supervising directly employed maintenance & grounds staff, and contractors in relation to service contracts and minor new works.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all works and services are carried out in a professional, efficient, and progressive manner to a high-quality and technically sound standard while providing value for money and ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and organisation policies and procedures;
  • Manage and supervise engineering charge-hands, gardens team leaders, direct labour workforce, agency, and contract staff;
  • Ensure PPM works are issued to engineering, building, gardens operatives and contractors for completion by the planned date;
  • Ensure all relevant documents and information are inputted onto the department’s Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, Planet FM;
  • Be a member of the team responsible for the ongoing implementation and development of the PPM system, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) and Codes of Practice;
  • Act as Responsible or Deputy Responsible Person, (to ensure the organisation is legally compliant in the relevant areas), in at least two of the Estate Services technical areas;
  • Deploy technical knowledge and experience to competently manage Estate services work, including installations, PPM, analysis and correction of fault situations, repairs to complex low voltage networks, critical systems, and relevant installations;
  • Keep the Maintenance Manager fully up-to-date in respect of operational issues, particularly those that may affect the department and organisation’s activity targets or performance levels, and to work closely with the Maintenance Manager to deliver a co-ordinated approach to maintenance and grounds operational activities;
  • Ensure safe methods of working. Carry out risk assessments and develop safe systems of work as required for specific works and projects, issue Permits to Work, when required;
  • Have input into the development and management of maintenance policies, programmes, service level agreements and contract agreements to meet the changing organisational requirements;
  • Interpret and work from instructions and drawings, including CAD drawings and specifications, to develop an understanding of complex plant, equipment and systems to ensure continual maintenance and fault diagnosis.
A successful candidate will have:
  • Educated to BTEC, HNC or HND in engineering, or equivalent qualification;
  • Completed apprenticeship in an approved craft;
  • An ONC technical qualification;
  • Suitable experience in a role combining technical/ operational Estate Services managerial work;
  • Knowledge of safe use of low voltage electrical systems;
  • Experience of development, operation and use of building management systems;
  • Knowledge of statutory health and safety requirements and their application/management;
  • Strongly self-motivated and the ability to motivate others.
