The role

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the University’s Campus Division to lead the Capital Projects Team and to shape strategic intent and all significant capital delivery for the University.

The role is advertised at an exciting time for the Division, with a new Campus Planning function coming into place (aimed at creating a longer-term vision for capital planning), a focus on improved systems management and high aspirations for achieving a World Class Campus. As part of a Campus Development Leadership Group, the Head of Capital Projects will work closely with the Director of Campus Development, the Head of Campus Planning and the Head of Sustainability to ensure that seamless, joined up and collaborative planning is at the forefront of capital delivery.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will be responsible for developing a clear approach to Total Quality Capital management, overseeing the delivery of direct projects include new build projects, significant renovations and refurbishments as well as installation of major research equipment and other furniture, fittings and equipment. The postholder will ensure a consistent, quality approach across all projects and programmes (including with Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus), a focus on high quality risk management and  high professional standards – in project delivery, process and systems rigour and staff management.

The role forms part of the Campus Development Leadership Group (CDLG), as well as being a core member of the Extended Leadership Team (ELT) responsible for leading on achieving core objectives and change management across the Division (to deliver on the Campus Divisional Plan and its strategic objectives). The postholder will show a clear commitment to and skills in working collaboratively, using matrix management and lateral leadership styles to co-ordinate complexity and gain confidence and trust as well as driving for clear, measurable, objective success in project delivery.

You should apply if

.. you have a passion for making a difference; huge enthusiasm for capital project delivery, leading implementation and change, stakeholder engagement, sustainability and transformation of the built environment in a University Campus setting. You must possess excellent experience and skills in delivering capital projects, including large scale, strategically critical multi££ schemes, excellent leadership and change management qualities and the ability to focus, work collaboratively and problem solve effectively in a multi-professional environment.

You will have excellent technical knowledge in delivering capital/construction projects, be strategically astute, a strong leader and show a positive orientation to collaborative and multi-agency working to achieve shared goals. Educated to degree level or equivalent, with a relevant qualification and clear relevant experience you must demonstrate the ability to lead others, manage complexity, be personally, politically and commercially astute and communicate effectively, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
