An exciting opportunity has arisen within an NHS organisation in London as a Operational Estates Officer – Electrical. The post will be interim for 3 months at an hourly rate of £34.31 inside IR35 (Through an Umbrella Solution).

The post holder will be expected to participate in the development, management, and upkeep of the CAFM system, compiling regular reports, co-ordinate the direct labour maintenance team, minor improvement, and operational management.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assist the Operational Estates Manager in devising and developing the department’s operational estate’s plans;
  • Assist in managing the organisation’s condition appraisal system ensuring that there is an ongoing annual and 5 year rolling maintenance programme covering all building, engineering, grounds & gardens, relevant equipment, and systems;
  • Ensure that the organisation complies with all statutory, mandatory, NHS and other regulatory requirements with respect to the organisation’s Estate;
  • Have a detailed knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire Regulations and other relevant legislation, working with the organisation Health and Safety Department and all Estates & Facilities staff, to ensure safe working environments for staff, patients, and visitors;
  • Take responsibility for the management and implementation of maintenance contracts and minor improvement projects, under the direction of the Operational Estates Manager as required;
  • Manage the overall maintenance operation of the organisation estate, deploying services as flexibly and cost-effectively as possible using internal and external staff as necessary, utilising IT systems fully;
  • Monitor service levels, pre-empt changes in users’ needs and anticipate future requirements, maintain overall quality, balancing different demands, and ensure their staff have the support they need to provide a quality service and fulfil their role;
  • Apply a working knowledge and proficiency in hospital maintenance work;
  • Lead on behalf of the Directorate on all aspects relating to energy, sustainability and carbon reduction and developing complex strategies incorporating organisation wide stakeholders;
  • Carry out regular condition and other surveys as appropriate and report findings to the appropriate forum;
  • Organise and participate in the Estates Out of Hour’s Emergency Call Out system on a regular basis;
  • Manage budget controls across all operational budgets for the Directorate in conjunction with the Operational Estates Manager.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Completion of a recognised electrical engineering related apprenticeship or qualification;
  • Experience in the management of a large and complex Estate;
  • Experience in managing maintenance systems;
  • Detailed knowledge of project management techniques and principles;
  • Detailed knowledge of health & safety, engineering and building law;
  • Ability to work within tight budgets with awareness of value for money.
