Here at West Sussex County Council, we have an exciting opportunity for Facilities Officers to join our Facilities Management team and help make a difference to the lives of our residents within West Sussex. You will report to the Area Facilities Manager and be part of a team managing maintenance and compliance at County Council buildings ensuring a safe environment for staff and customers.

As a Facilities Officer, you will bring practical facilities and building knowledge along with good customer service skills to our Facilities Management unit. Alongside a team of Facilities Officer’s, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a range of essential Facilities and Building Management Services. This will include undertaking with the team a range of tasks together with the operation of associated equipment at designated County Council buildings and implementing of regulations that directly impact the health and safety of the building occupiers and visitors.

Key Skills:

  1. Good communication and interpersonal skills in order to provide clear and concise advice and guidance to a range of clients.
  2. Ability to appreciate the need to maintain essential building services and security and the requirement to be flexible in their work routines to achieve this.
  3. Ability to respond independently, analyse problems and implement practical solutions.
  4. Ability to work with a range of software packages with good keyboard skills e.g. Word, Excel, databases etc.
  5. Literacy and numeracy skills in order to understand written instructions describing tasks, e.g. reading instructions to ensure alarm systems are working correctly.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • NVQ in a Building Services or Facilities Management related discipline or equivalent qualification or experience, demonstrating the same level of applied knowledge.
  • A full and current driving licence.
  • Experience of good practical building related skills.
  • Experience of building and Facilities Management Services.
  • Experience of mentoring, coaching and delivering skills-based training.
