Come and discover the impact you can make when you’re equipped, encouraged and inspired to perform to your very best.

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced construction-orientated project manager to join a growing team and department. Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on Harwell Campus, the role will be supporting the delivery of a portfolio of significant construction projects (circa £250m), developing new state-of-the-art scientific facilities of national and international importance.

Within this role, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of significant and complex construction projects. The post holder will manage the interface between the client and the design team, appointed consultants and main contractors. You will work closely with a senior project manager to lead on major projects through all RIBA stages, ensuring schemes deliver to budget, quality and programme. The project manager will have responsibility for the planning, management, coordination and financial control of multiple projects. You will be required to drive initiatives from the initial concept and design through to handover to operations.

Working within a team, you will be expected to manage schemes typically in the region of £5-25m, but could include managing a significant portfolio of lower-value works. The nature of STFC’s science dictates that most major projects are likely to be complex, unique and often delivered at pace.

About you

You will have excellent knowledge and experience in implementing project management processes, with a good understanding of project planning using an appropriate software package. You will hold a construction-related degree qualification, or equivalent, and have a good knowledge of the different forms of construction. We are looking for someone with experience in the management of high-value project delivery, who will be able to ensure that our programmes run to time, cost and quality. You will have a strong understanding of health and safety and a commercial awareness.

About Us

As part of UK Research and Innovation, STFC offers a benefits package designed to provide an excellent work/life balance. This includes 30 days’ annual leave, 10.5 public and privilege days, Christmas shutdown, flexible working hours, a workplace nursery, an exceptional defined benefit pension scheme, and social and sporting activities and societies.

STFC builds and operates a science estate home to many of the UK’s largest research facilities. The estate is undergoing a major transformation, to deliver unique facilities, support our sustainability goals, and prepare for the next generation of research infrastructures and researchers.

As one of Europe’s largest research organisations, this is a place where there’s always something new to learn – about the world around us, about your career, but most of all about yourself. Join us and discover what’s possible.
