The role
Southwark Council is looking for a dynamic and proactive Deputy Building Manager on a 12-month fixed term basis to lead facilities services at 160 Tooley Street and the Queens Road campus.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead with Impact: Step in for the Building Manager and oversee the facilities team, ensuring all maintenance is done safely and on time.
  • Build Relationships: Work closely with clients, contractors, and technical teams to maintain safe and compliant buildings.
  • Drive Excellence: Manage contracted services to meet performance standards and value-for-money goals.
  • Manage Events: Coordinate all events, from corporate meetings to VIP visits, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Innovate and Improve: Continuously enhance processes, services, and management practices.
  • Resource Management: Oversee all resources, from mail to maintenance, minimizing risks and improving efficiency.
  • First Responder: Act quickly in emergencies, coordinating with emergency services as needed. 

How will you make an impact:
We're looking for a motivated Deputy Building Manager with experience in local government facilities management, who is ready to take ownership, make informed decisions, and ensure our sites run like clockwork.

Ideally, you bring a mix of the following:

  • Solid background in facilities and or building management, including help desk functions, in public or private sectors.
  • BIFM qualification or professional equivalent.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate a small team in a large organisation.
  • Strong skills in negotiating, instructing, and maintaining relationships with suppliers, contractors, and customers.
  • Able to plan, prioritise, and handle multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Skilled in MS Office, databases, and help desk software.
  • Focused on improving performance through effective FM strategies and systems.
  • Flexibility of home working with trips to our London Bridge HQ.
  • This role is offered on a 12-month fixed term contract basis.
